Fade to Black and Blue

Based on the song “Fade to Black” by Metallica.

This song has a great connection to me as it deals with grief, loss, sorrow, and feelings laid bare that rarely is plainly discussed.

I listened to the song 4 times, the first I drew lines to represent the lyrics and base feelings of the song. The second time I applied light blue, grief, and let the paint drip to symbolize tears. The third time I applied dark blue, sorrow and the fourth time black, despair.

The red was applied after everything and represents that small moment in time when something violent, such as a car wreck, occurs and in a moment changes everything. One moment a person was alive, the next they’ve passed on.

The one dot of white in the depths of darkness represents hope, life, love, that life will continue and you will survive the drowning despair and sorrow you might feel in the wake of the loss of a loved one.
