THE ROGUE ARTIST COMMUNITY FORUMS ART FESTIVALS Liability Insurance!

I would like to sign up for an outdoor festival, and in the contract, it says I am responsible for liability insurance. Specific language: “Accepted Artist is responsible for acquiring liability insurance covering all exposed individuals including the Artist and representatives prior to the event.”

I tend to be a little laissez faire when it comes to insuring artwork itself, but liability feels scarier, and I’m rarely ever asked about this. How do y’all approach liability insurance for an 8-hour event? The table and tent are provided and set up by the organizers, btw, I just put my stuff on it, which will be mostly paper based and not very dangerous. Is it expensive? Is it just a random insurance company? šŸ˜… I don’t even know where to start looking. Cheers!

This is something that I have ignored in the past. Especially when doing festivals. Do they require it?

Though we’ve never had to use it, I believe most artists go through ACT insurance to purchase one time event insurance. I believe its somewhere around $49 USD for a one show policy. I think they offer annual plans at reasonable prices too. I’m not going to vouch for them since we don’t have personal experience, but if anyone in the Rogue fam has used this for show insurance, let us know what you think! šŸ™‚

Hey friends! That’s pretty much all the language in the contract which my husband assumes is just their way of shrugging off liability, and I begin to agree! It sounds a bit like when the galleries say artists are responsible for insurance in case of theft/damage, which uhhh…. I also tend to ignore lol XD

That said, if anyone in canada is around, I did notice there is a popular online source called Duuo. It seems suspiciously simple, but apparently people use it all the time for weddings in particular, so I am trying it out (especially since I don’t think anything will happen at a table where I sell literal paper products lol). It was only $15 for a day event, and with a potential 20,000 humans wandering through, I will gladly try it for peace of mind! šŸ˜€
